THE MESSAGE presented by dsgnrswrkshp is the collective’s inaugural campaign on Black awareness and representation in design. Black designers make up approximately 3% of the design population, Black makers make up a smaller fraction. Though a small percentage, our contributions are mighty. We craft, we prototype, we mind meld for the consumption and convenience of the consumer. There is power and responsibility in that, our ideas and implementation hold daily influence and impact on society - we should be represented, supported, and seen. THE MESSAGE shares the stories of seven makers of various backgrounds, their origins, inspiration, and honest outlooks on the state of the design industry. We invite you to listen to their perspectives.
The concept of this series is to share our stories, but also our eye. We equipped each #dsgnr with a Polaroid camera and asked them to take photos of (3) topics of their choice. The topics? Inspiration, home, recommendations, process, materials, construction, tools/utensils, projects, sketch & mood.
